Overview
The Food and Nutrition Programme option at the Department of Vocational and Technical Education is one of the programme options under Home Economics. The programme provides students with a comprehensive education in the field of food science and nutrition. We believe that understanding the role of food in promoting health and well-being is crucial in today’s society, and we strive to empower our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact in the field of nutrition. The programme offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary curriculum that combines scientific principles with practical applications. Students delve into the science of food, exploring its composition, processing, and impact on human health. They gain a deep understanding of macro and micronutrients, food safety, food quality, and the relationship between nutrition and various health conditions. The programme prioritizes hands-on learning experiences to complement classroom instruction.
Our Faculty
Our student body is the heart and soul of our programme. The strong representation of female students, making up about 85% of the cohort, our ever-increasing 15% male students help enrich our academic community. Students have access to state-of-the-art laboratories, where they conduct experiments, analyze food samples, and gain practical skills in food preparation and evaluation. They also have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty members on cutting-edge research projects, contributing to advancements in the field of food and nutrition and engage in various co-curricular activities, nurturing a sense of collaboration and unity.
Upon graduation, our students are well-prepared to pursue various career paths in the food and nutrition field. They may work as nutrition consultants, food scientists, community nutritionists, Educationists or researchers. They are equipped with the skills to develop evidence-based nutrition plans, educate individuals and communities about healthy eating habits, and contribute to advancements in food science and technology.
